How to recognise a Pretendor
These devious chameleons pop up out of the blue and want to be your best mate, but all is not as it seems. These shape-shifters laugh at all your jokes, help you in online games and may even offer you treats, but quicker than lightening they turn and are wanting things from you in return. It may be they want you to send them a picture or to nick them a bar of chocolate from the corner shop, but give them an inch and they’ll take a mile. Once you’ve given into them, their courage grows and they just keeping asking for more and more.
How to deal with a Pretendor
Whatever has happened, it’s not your fault. Get help by telling an adult you trust, like a teacher or family member.
If someone is sending you messages or asking you to do something that makes you feel uncomfortable, tell an adult and block them so they can’t message you again. The adult can also help you to report them.
Some people will not be in real life who they seem to be online, they may pretend to be your friend even though you have never met them. So be careful who you choose to chat with online. It’s safer to chat to people you know in real life.
It’s always ok not to reply.
